About Mary Gregory
Mary Gregory is an award-winning arts writer, art critic, and novelist. A member of the International Association of Art Critics, she has degrees in both English and Art History and has studied and worked in the New York art world, in the galleries and auction houses about which she writes.
Her work appears frequently in Newsday, as well as in the City Arts section of NY Press newspapers Our Town, The Spirit, and Chelsea News. Gregory's reviews also have been published in Hamptons Magazine, Hamptons Art Hub, Afterimage Magazine, Catholic Digest, Woman Around Town, Ragazine, The Seventh Quarry, ArtSlant, Immagine&Poesia and Cross-Cultural Communications among others. For more than five years, she wrote monthly columns on exhibitions, museums and galleries in Long Island Pulse, one of the largest regional magazines in the United States. Mary Gregory's critical essays have been included in exhibition catalogues, and her short fiction has been anthologized by the Georgia Museum of Art.
Interviewees include prominent figures in the New York art world such as the president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the directors of The Museum of Modern Art, The Frick Collection, the Jewish Museum and the Brooklyn Museum; the chief curators of the Whitney, MoMA, the Museum of Art and Design and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum;and the Commissioner of Cultural Affairs.
Mary Gregory won the 2019 award for Best Critical Arts Review from the NY Press Club and Best Arts Feature from the Press Club of Long Island. She's received awards for arts journalism from PCLI in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 and is part of a team honored in 2015 by the New York Press Association for Best Coverage of the Arts. She's a 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2020 Pushcart Prize nominee for essays, poetry and fiction.
Mary lives with her husband on Long Island's Middle Bay where they continue their search for incredible art, amazing sunsets, and the best mocha cake, ever.
